In so much as God is transcendent, God is transgender. In so much as God is embodied, God can be found in everybody (and every body). Not all Unitarian Universalists believe in God but we all believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person or what 19th-century Unitarians called "the divine spark" in every person.
Ask a Faith Leader
A question from the community.
Am I fully made in the image of God as a transgender person?
People keep telling me that transitioning is "rejecting how God made me." I don't believe that, but the doubt creeps in late at night. I want to hear from faith leaders directly: am I fully made in the image of God as a transgender person?

Absolutely. God created all the fish in the sea with magical colors and shapes and sizes. Why wouldn't God create with just as much diversity in the human species? You were made with joy and love and are nothing short of a perfect creation of a perfect Creator.
Absolutely. God is nonbinary. God's image is as multi-faceted as the prisms of the rainbow. We are perfectly created and as unique as our thumbprints.
Yes! God (who is beyond gender) does not love us because of our gender, but because we are God's children. God made you human and sacred.
